Why Gerry & Johnson Optometrists?

Gerry & Johnson Optometrists prides itself on providing all of our patients with the best standard of eyecare possible.
Our practice has special interest and expertise in providing vision training for binocular vision disorders, especially for children where vision and eye coordination problems can affect learning. Our philosophy is to use vision training (eye exercises) where possible for children before prescribing glasses, and only doing so when glasses are necessary.

We also have a proud reputation of being a provider of specialty contact lens designs and fittings, and are one of the forefront practices in Queensland for OrthoK, a specialized contact lens procedure for shortsightedness.

Whilst we recognise that spectacles are necessary for achieving clear comfortable vision, we do not believe they are the only answer to your visual needs. You may find that along with contact lenses, or instead of spectacles, that you are advised to use certain dietary supplements, or that a regime of eye exercises are required.

Gerry & Johnson Optometrists has the latest digital retinal and anterior eye photographic equipment, as well as computerized corneal topography, to comprehensively diagnose and manage all of your eye care needs.

We trust that by providing you with a total eyecare service we are able to give you the vision to achieve your best!

Elle joined our practice in April 2009 as a receptionist and optical consultant, and has since moved into the Senior position. Elle is also approaching graduation from Queensland University of Technology with a Bachelor of Mass Communication. Elle handpicks all of our stylish spectacle frames and sunglasses and is responsible for many innovations which make your visits to us easy and enjoyable. She can answer just about any optical question and is an expert in sourcing tricky-to-find optical products like prescription diving goggles, safety frames and vision training (eye exercise) equipment. Elle keeps GJO running like clockwork and enjoys helping our patients to select the latest technology lenses and the perfect frames for their needs, or ensuring that they never run out of contact lenses! She enjoys the challenge of helping to run a busy practice while also maintaining the friendly and helpful environment we aim to provide to you at GJO.

Jemma Whittred
Receptionist / Optical Consultant

Jemma joined Gerry & Johnson Optometrists in July 2009 as a full time receptionist and optical consultant. Jemma keeps the front desk running smoothly by managing the appointment book and providing full optometrist support. When you receive an sms reminder about your appointment, a reminder postcard to return for another visit, or your glasses / contact lenses are delivered by courier, they have all come from Jemma! Jemma has two years of optical experience, coming from OPSM before she started at GJO, and particularly enjoys interacting with all of our wonderful children patients. Jemma is the boss of the lolly jar – if you’re good during your appointment she’ll let you have one!

Anna Reimers
Receptionist / Optical Consultant

Anna joined the practice as our part-time receptionist and optical consultant in January 2008. After a year of studying Health Science at UQ, Anna transferred to QUT Radiography in 2009, and commences her second year in 2010. So far Kate, who is Anna's big sister, has not been able to convince her to study Optometry – but Anna does always excel at the eye section of her anatomy studies! Anna is GJO’s resident bookkeeper and manages the financial side to keeping our patients’ eyes happy. She enjoys helping adults and children alike to pick their favourite frames and is knowledgable in the latest optical technologies. You will see Anna anywhere from 2 to 5 days a week, in at Gerry & Johnson Optometrists, depending on her University timetable. Even when she's not working, she regularly visits!
