June 2010 – Kate Johnson and Vijay Mistry are part of the team of 6 Contact Lens Clinical Supervisors at QUT who win the Vice Chancellor’s Awards for Excellence in the area of Learning and Teaching. The Vice-Chancellor's Awards for Excellence aim to recognise exceptional performance of staff who demonstrate sustained and outstanding achievement in activities that are aligned to the University's vision and strategic goals.
In 2010 Vice-Chancellor's Awards for Excellence were awarded to 18 recipients, from 94 individual and team nominations.

October 2010 – Kate and Vijay deliver four lectures between them at the International Cornea and Contact Lens Congress in Sydney. Kate is awarded Fellowship of the Corne and Contact Lens Society of Australia – an acknowledgement of her specialty in field of contact lenses and amark of esteem in the profession.


January 2011 - As the new President of the Optometrists Association of Australia QLD/NT Division, Kate Johnson attends the Prime Minister’s XI Cricket in Canberra and has the opportunity to talk eye with Prime Minister Julia Gillard. Kate talked to Julia about optometry and the likelihood of Australia winning the cricket match! England ended up winning by 7 wickets after rain interrupted play.

May 2011 – Marissa is one of three Optometrists invited to speak at the inaugural Multidisciplinary Health Symposium at the Sunshine Coast, a joint conference for Pharmacists, Optometrists, Occupational Therapists and Social Workers amongst other professions. With a theme of Healthy Ageing, Marissa spoke on Diabetes and the Eye, and how Optometrists and other health professionals effectively work together for best health outcomes.
August 2011 – Kate supports local lens manufacturing laboratory Essilor in a visit from Federal MP’s Tony Abbott and Teresa Gambaro to discuss Australian manufacture and small business. After the meeting, Tony Abbott dropped into Gerry & Johnson Optometrists for an eye examination – look out for his new rimless glasses on the news!
