Our practice incorporates the latest equipment to improve the eye examination process. We perform thorough eye examinations in order to assess your vision and eye health.

During the examination your eye coordination, muscle balance and focussing ability will be reviewed. The health of your eyes will be thoroughly examined to check for cataracts, glaucoma, or any other eye diseases.

What do we look at?
Your routine examination will cover:

  • refraction (measurement for your prescription)
  • sight - what size letter you can read on an eye chart 6 metres away from you?
  • binocular vision - co-ordination of your eyes and focussing ability
  • an examination of the internal structures of your eye (optional photography)
  • an examination of the external structures of your eye (optional photography)
  • a “pressure” test to screen for glaucoma
  • a thorough discussion with you regarding the findings and solutions to your needs
  • corneal topography (see contact lenses, or ortho-k for more information)

Additional Tests

Digital Photography
Pupil Dilation
Field of Vision

"A picture tells a thousand words."

With the advent of advances in digital photography, it is now possible to take precise images of the eye and store them for better patient management.

To help the Optometrist assess the health of your eye, the muscles of the iris may be relaxed with an eye drop to allow the pupil to dilate to a bigger size. The drops generally take 20 minutes to achieve acceptable pupil dilation.
Some eye conditions, such as glaucoma, will affect peripheral vision long before central vision is reduced. The most accurate evaluation of your peripheral vision is with computerised perimetry to measure the sensitivity of your field of vision.
